Postdoctoral Researcher - To study how cells regulate their life span

The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the leading Life Sciences Institutes in the world. It accommodates 30 research groups and 500 employees investigating how molecules and cells create life, spanning the scale from atom to organism. Founded in 1971, the Biozentrum has been the birthplace of many fundamental discoveries in biology and medicine, spawning several Nobel Laureates.

A postdoctoral position is available in the group of Prof. Jean Pieters at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel.

The Project

The goal of the project is to investigate how cells regulate their life span. Research in the Pieters’ laboratory aims to understand the regulation of cell population homeostasis by members of the coronin protein family within the immune system as well as other physiological systems (see e.g. Pieters et al, Nature Reviews Immunology, PMID 23765056; Vinet et al., Mol. Biol, Cell, PMID 24403600, Jayachandran et al., Immunity, PMID 30611611, Mori et al., Science signaling, 34932374). We use a combination of innovative in vitro and in vivo approaches that cover the entire spectrum from molecules to cells to organisms to unravel the mechanisms underlying the establishment and maintenance of cell population homeostasis. The successful candidate will be able to utilize and develop innovative in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo state-of-the-art experimental systems to study how cell population homeostasis is regulated to achieve proper functioning.

Your profile

The successful candidate should hold a Ph.D. degree and have a strong background in biochemistry, cell biology and molecular biology and ideally be familiar with both in vitro and in vivo techniques; Furthermore, the candidate should exhibit team spirit, be highly motivated, self-driven and creative.
